okkervil river
Wednesday, October 29th, 2008Okkervil River’s latest album The Stand Ins, the other half of their 2007 release Stage Names, is a satisfying listen from beginning to end. Thanks to the banjo, the folky motown la la las, the steady beat and philisophical lyrics, their single “Lost Coastlines” will stick in your brain, but in a good way. I especially liked the TV heads in their video. Reminds me of Flight of the Conchords “The Humans Are Dead” because their robot heads look kinda similar to the TVs. That might be a stretch, but whatevs. Affirmative.

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008Choose. Your. Own. Adventure.
New York based duo Heartsrevolution are vinyl loving, tambourine tapping, glitter beat making, disco funk cool. . . and rumored to be making their way around NYC in an ice cream truck named Heartschallenger.
Love. It.
róisín murphy’s first US performance tonight!
Friday, October 24th, 2008Brent has taken excitement to a whole new level today. He’s just hours away from seeing Róisín Murphy live at the Mansion tonight in NYC, her very FIRST performance in the US, and he’s elated, ecstatic and deliriously happy. I’m a tad on the jealous side, (who isn’t that doesn’t have tickets to her show tonight?!), but really looking forward to his post-concert review! So in honor of this much anticipated evening, here’s a live clip of Róisín in Covent Garden last year, doing what she does best – dropping it like it’s H.O.T. with just her voice and a super chic coat!

sleepy epee
Monday, August 4th, 2008California’s Great Northern, released their stripped down and laid back EP Sleepy Epee a few months ago and it’s full of dreamy pop gems. I especially like the track “This Is A Problem” and its accompanying video. I wish I looked that cool on a bike. . .
Their full-length album Trading Twilight for Daylight released in ‘07 is definitely worth checking out as well, thanks to its reflective melodies and ethereal airy sound.
