gear head

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

You could say I’m a gear head. . . but not in the grease up to my elbows under a car hood kinda way. But rather as a fan of these super cool, vintage gear necklaces by Jill of Creative Manifestations on Etsy. Just look at the delicate details combined with the rough, machinery vibe, it’s such a good thing!

irish

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Recently it has come to my attention that I’m a little more Irish than I thought. Okay, a lot more Irish than I thought. With a name like O’Shanney only a few branches away from me on the good ‘ole family tree, I was a bit surprised by my sudden ability to actually say, ‘Kiss me I’m Irish!’, and mean it. With that being said, I figured why not use this newfound identity to find something cool and chic (and a tad celtic)?!

frosty

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

That is the word of the week, er last couple weeks I should say. FROSTY. Everything in my world at the moment is iced over, chilled, numb, frigid, frozen and especially frosty. Thank goodness a trip to warmer weather is just over the horizon for moi (sorry to all the rest of you below zero peeps!). So in honor of the bitter cold days here up nort, I’ve decided to make some extra nippy lemonade out of some super arctic lemons, and shed some light on a few fantastic, frosty inspired gems.

measure up

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

During a fabulous weekend in Iowa with friends (yes. . . Iowa can be fun and fab!), I came across an interesting use for tape measures. My dear dad always has one in his pocket, and insists I use the one he gave me before hanging any picture on the wall. Now, I may or may not (usually not!) use it before hanging artwork, but after seeing all the potential in that simple yellow tape I just might need to take it apart and make something way more useful.  Like earrings or a necklace or a brooch. . . the possibilities are endless! Just don’t tell my dad. . . eep!

let it snow

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Apparently this week is going to dump a lot of snow on the Twin Cities, and I’m not so sure how I feel about that. As much as I’d like to have a little chat with Mother Nature about my schedule and how a load of snow is really going to get in the way, it’s probably not a possibility. So I’ll just take the hint, and let it inspire me to find some lovely gems. . . winter white rings and lovely crystal earrings. Pretty, pretty simple things just like the snowflakes that are about to fall. . .

tollipop

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

On this chilly first of December morning, I thought a warm fuzzy would be a nice addition to the day. And thanks to Tollipop’s wonderful little girls and their oh so cute furry friends, it wasn’t too difficult of a task.

These tiny gals love to read, knit and make music in their darling caps and scarves, and I adore the imagination and creativity that just spills out from their sweet faces. Check out more of Tollipop here and see what’s behind the magic on Tollipop’s blog here!

big is beautiful

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

By Nora G.

This season, big and bold necklaces are definitely a must, and I was lucky enough to find one in Singapore to the huge envy of all my friends. But all bragging aside, Bendywho’s big and beautiful work of art necklaces and other fabulous, vintage inspired accessories are available online here! No need to go to Singapore to find your own statement necklace. . .

Bendywho is Wendy, a mother and multitasker from Providence, Rhode Island, who creates amazingly gorgeous statement pieces. Right now she’s working hard at writing a book on how to make kick butt statement jewelry too. . . definitely a much needed inspiration I’d love for Christmas!  She loves what’s old and dented, and by combining scraps and findings at flea markets with new and unused elements, the results cannot be anything but pretty. Can I have them all?! Please?

audrey & oliver

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I don’t know what it is about these two, but Audrey and Oliver are too sweet for words. Combined with my love for photo booth pictures, I couldn’t resist sharing this photo today. Check out Little Big Pants (a Minnesota designer, woot woot!) on Etsy for more of Audrey and Oliver. The actual dolls are just as darling as the photos of them! I mean, that bow tie with his sprouts of hair? It’s just too cute. . . too cute. . .

buttercup

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

For whatever reason, the word buttercup is stuck in my mind today. No idea why, and to be honest all I can picture is that buttercup teacup thingy someone eats in the movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. It has been quite the week, so perhaps the buttercup thing is just my brain short circuiting from all the ups and downs. But whatever the case I found myself searching  for buttercups on Etsy, and I’m so happy I did because it brought me to the handmade vintage jewelry of Lazy Giraffe in the UK.

Delicate, vintage, amazing. . . all these words popped into my mind when I saw the beautiful colors and the gorgeous, old-timey pendants and earrings. Available at very reasonable prices, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t splurge on yourself a teensy bit today with a pair of the Lazy Giraffe’s buttercup earrings, royal blue orbit necklace, or anything else really. It’s just all so pretty! Thank heavens for having random words stuck in random minds. . .

sparkle paw

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I’m not gonna lie. Monday was a little more hectic than usual. . . like five days smashed into one, and yet today is still only Tuesday. But such is life! And I’m happy after crazy days like that, the chances of stumbling upon something lighthearted and fun over at Sparkle Paws is very, very good.

So to turn my frazzled frown upside down, I took a gander at the delightful, all original illustrations by San Diego based designer Leslie Thompson. I love her greeting cards and pocket mirrors, because each little creature is so sweet! The next best thing would be finding one of these cute guys in my mailbox, so I can pin it on my wall at work and always remember I’m the bees knees. Mmm hmm, that’s right.

zip zip zippers!

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

After a bit of nosing around, I came across these interesting and fresh new spins on how to wear zippers. Gone are the days of just using a zipper to simply close a jacket or jeans.  Take Amalia Versaci’s vintage zipper jewelry for example. . . who would’ve thought turning one into a chic little stud would look so cool? And I love the size and robust style of her zipper pendant below. Makes me wonder where that massive zip came from!

And how about Labyrinth Vintage’s nifty zipper neckerchief? Such a great idea to add some er, zip(!) to your wardrobe!

nerd girls

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Etsy shop owner Dear Kiki just may have some of the most endearing, stylish nerdy girls I’ve seen. From her notecards to her original prints, watercolors and drawings, her creativity and vibrant interpretations leap off the paper. And I adore her nerdy girl painting that declares, “Nerd is the new black.” I couldn’t agree more!

ghosts on vacation

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Because everyone needs a vacation, right? Right! And it looks like these little ghosties spent their vacay swooshing through the Spanish Main Oyster Bar & Hotel in Ft Myers, Florida. Nice choice guys and gals!

Available for purchase at My Invisible Friends on Etsy, these super cute and innovative characters by Minneapolis’ own Corey McNally were added to a vintage 1972 postcard sent from the sunshine state to Edina, MN. Very unique and very clever. No need to wait for Halloween either, for just $7.50 these friendly ghosts will look extra special on your wall any time of year!
