iQ car font
Vroom vroom. Beep beep. Check out the coolest font ever. . . the iQ Font. Designed by a collaborative team of typographers and one maneuver-savvy race car driver, the font was actually created by tracing the whips and spins of a car driven by pro racer Stef van Campenhoudt. The result? A one-of-a-kind, cutting edge type that will, for lack of a better phrase, get your motor runnin’. He he.
But all kidding aside, I think this approach is simply genius thanks to the talented minds of graphic designers Pierre Smeets and Damien Aresta of pleaseletmedesign, and interactive artist Zachary Lieberman of openFrameworks. Using a Toyota with four dots painted on the top (see video below), the artists were able to track the movements of van Campenhoudt’s M’s and T’s in real time with a camera and snazzy software. And here’s what they got. . . see? COOL!

If you’d like to download the font for yourself, you can do so here! And if you’d like to see more photos of the creation of the font, check those out on Flicker here! And for a behind the scenes peek at van Campenhoudt racing out the font, watch the video below. I wonder if the Ford Shelby Cobra would have just as cool a font?! Maybe!
